There are many ways you can organise work experience in China. These include internships through CRCC Asia, language teaching (particularly if English is your first language). Websites to check out for language teaching posts include www.worldteach.org and buckland@china.org. If you are looking ahead to 2015, look at the British Council at www.britishcouncil.org/china-education-generationuk.htm and speak to your department about academic exchanges.

Making direct approaches to companies can work too. I spoke recently with a second year Economics undergraduate who successfully arranged a summer internship in Beijing with a finance company he contacted online.

Plus you may have specific interests (e.g. environmental or social) which mean there are organisations and projects you can target. Take a look at www.habitatchina.org for some ideas.

Here's more about what CRCC Asia offers: 'We offer 1, 2 and 3 month internships in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Sanya throughout the year. We offer placements in Business, Law, Finance, Marketing, Advertising, PR, Green Technology, NGOs & charities, Hospitality, and many other sectors.

The program includes the processing of a business visa, high quality accommodation, Chinese business culture training, social and cultural activities, twice-weekly mandarin lessons, networking events and much more. Our program is available to UK and non-UK nationals, but all candidates must be fluent in English and have a strong academic record.

Approximately 30% of CRCC interns in China are offered a full-time position within their company post internship, and a recent alumni survey showed that 89% of UK alumni were employed in a graduate-level job 3 months after they had returned from China. You can see a variety of student testimonials here.
